Invisalign: A Life-Changing Experience

Orthodontic issues can be difficult to live with, as they impact your smile’s functionality and appearance. Problems with crooked teeth, malocclusion, and overcrowding can make your smile less appealing and hinder proper biting and chewing. At Tansley Woods Dentistry, we use Invisalign to help resolve orthodontic issues and improve the quality of your smile. These FAQs from your Burlington, Ontario dentist, Dr. Thelam Nguyen, explain more about Invisalign.

Invisalign: A Life-Changing Experience

What is Invisalign?

With the Invisalign orthodontic system, teeth can be straightened without metal braces by using transparent aligners. It helps correct various dental issues, including crooked teeth, crossbites, underbites, overbites, open bites, gaps between teeth, and overcrowding.

How does Invisalign treatment work?

Dr. Nguyen will begin by examining your teeth to identify any issues that require attention. Using Invisalign digital imaging, we will develop a treatment plan tailored to your orthodontic needs. At the same time, a series of clear, plastic aligners will be custom-made for your use. When worn, the aligners apply precise pressure on your teeth to slowly and methodically shift them into alignment. You’ll wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours daily. Every two weeks, you’ll switch to the next set of aligners in your series to keep the straightening process going until your treatment is complete.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Invisalign provides more flexibility than traditional braces, making achieving a straighter smile easier and more convenient. Benefits include:

  • Invisibility: The aligners are made from clear plastic material that’s practically invisible on your teeth, letting you straighten your smile discreetly.

  • Removable aligners: You can remove the aligners to eat and brush your teeth so your treatment doesn’t interfere with your eating habits or oral hygiene routine.

  • Comfort: The aligners are made of smooth plastic, with no jagged parts that poke your gums or cheeks. They’re also custom-fitted, making them easy to use and more comfortable than wearing metal brackets and wires on your teeth.

  • Precision: Your treatment is mapped out from start to finish with great precision so you know what to expect from your treatment.

When biting and chewing, your teeth will be straighter, healthier, and stronger, so you can enjoy a greater variety of foods.
